Christmas Tree Hide and Seek for our Family Party

My house is small.  Really small... three bedrooms, two baths, a living room, kitchen and dining room all in 1320 sq ft.  We moved here from a big big house and we are loving small home living!  Because it is our first Christmas back in Jacksonville where most of my family lives (sans our two sons and their wives), I decided to host the family Christmas Party this year.  We will have five children from ages 3-10 and sixteen adults.  It's going to be a tight squeeze in our living room, but we are family and everything will work.  I've been thinking of what the children could do to not be bored and considered placing my laptop with kid DVDs to watch in a guest bedroom that happens to have a book shelf of children's books (leftovers from my adult sons), Start a Santa puzzle on the table and that still may be a reality, but I can imagine unsupervised bed jumping and bonked noggins.

We live in Florida and have a nice fenced in back yard.  I was thinking, it's too bad it isn't Easter so we could have an egg hunt.  OH GENIUS IDEA!  I am going to put up a lighted tree on the back deck and buy a bunch of plastic ornaments to hide around the back yard.  Who finds the star for the top wins a prize! They can decorate the tree with their findings.

I went to Big Lots and bought a 4' fake tree for $10, a box of 48 red plastic ornaments for $8 and recycled a gold bow for the top.  The kids LOVED it and after they found all the ornaments and decorated, the re-hid ornaments for another round.  Success!

  1. Marty, This evening I walked down memory lane with you, Feb. 9th, 2016. Took me back a long ways. This was such a great read. I do not know how you two were so brave leaving a wonderful home and
moving to Jax. so much more. We are so happy you came home to Jax. You and Mark will have the most adorable home in Waldon Woods, I just love it.
David misses us all so much. And Robert is going to be a Dad, hello Grandma. Can you believe they are both married. Each son has the perfect wife for their personality. We love having all our three daughters living so close to us, you 12 minutes, Patty 30 min. and Kathie 25. Can you believe it?
You sound like Humming Birds when you three are together, you should just hear the buzzing and tweeting. There is a lot of this and that, and I am the boss--Kathie making plans for how things should be done and you better follow the list. Patty saying yes and I like to cook so that is no problem, be sure you list what day we wash, oh, I will feed the birds and putter around in the yard, pick flowers and making orange juice off the trees, no worry I will handle everything. Marty, will do the meds. I know how after all these years doing mine. Marty has been doing this for 28 years, started when David was six weeks old. Bless your heart, you never complain, just say, I could sit around and feel sorry for myself, but I choose to live and enjoy my life. You just surprise me, singing in kitchen and puttering around, always doing something, for example making quilts. then Kat comes to take over and away she goes. Checking to see if everything is running smoothly. Doing her thing, planing meals and grocery list with me, shopping for groceries, and checking the list on frig. saying I am the boss. She is and you and Patty are more than willing to have that off you shoulders, big job. You girls run your legs off. Since there are two now instead of one needing your care, and our Sissy. The list would fill this page. You all take turns, three days and four nights for each, you are supposed to leave at nine a.m. but there is always the meeting to go over anything that needs attention. I know it is hard leaving your home and understanding wonderful husbands for three days and four nights, bless them.
God gave us the most wonderful daughters, not many would do this for their parents. Thank for putting up with us, It has to be so hard, Marty. We love you so much, and Patty and Kathie. We must have done something wonderful to have daughters that love use so much. My mouth to God's ears, send many blessing to you and may you know our hearts are so full of love for you, it has always been this way. Mom
